LITTLE SCENE STEALERS

A Theater Workshop for Children in Grades K-2

DATES: Saturday, May 5, 10 a.m. til noon
cost: $25

 

Voorhees Theatre Company is pleased to offer a Saturday morning
theatre workshop for budding “little scene stealer”. Children
ages five through seven (must currently be attending K-2 grade)
will have an exciting morning consisting of games, singing, storytelling
and other fun activities that introduce theatrical concepts and
performing techniques. Subjects covered will include
character development, setting the scene, fun with props, singing
 for the stage and more. At the conclusion of the workshop, parents
will be invited to view a “mini-performance” by their future star!

Voorhees Theatre Company’s “Little Scene Stealers” workshop will
be held on Saturday, May 5, from 10am-12pm in the Music Room
of Voorhees Middle School, 1000 Holly Oak Drive, Voorhees, NJ. The
cost is $25.00 per child.  Please print out and complete the

MASTER CLASSES WITH STAND-UP COMEDIAN JAY BLACK

Continuing its mission to bring theater education to children and young adults, Voorhees Theatre Company is celebrating its 10th anniversary season with a three-part Master Class led by professional stand-up comedian Jay Black. The workshops are scheduled for 1-3 p.m. June 9 and 16 with a student showcase 7-9 p.m. June 23 at Voorhees Middle School, 1000 Holly Oak Drive, Voorhees.

The curriculum includes writing practice, critiquing student stand-up routines, and culminates in a student showcase emceed by Jay Black who will also perform his own stand-up routine.

Requests to participate are due no later than June 4 and should be emailed to LORI@VOORHEESTHEATRE.ORG.  Please include your name, age/grade, email address and phone number. 

In 2007, Jay Black left teaching to pursue writing and stand-up full time.  Since then, he has headlined at close to 300 colleges, scoring three nominations and one win as the nation's top college comedian.
He has appeared as a comic on Showtime, A&E, Fox, the CBC, and NBC.  Jay has also performed at some of the most prestigious clubs in the country, from the Comedy Stop at the Tropicana in Atlantic City to the Los Angeles Improv.   Jay has opened for several celebrity comedians, including Joel McHale, Carlos Menica, D.L. Hughley, Sinbad, Bobcat Goldthwait, and Christopher Titus.  In 2010, Jay was given the opportunity to work with the U.S. Army on the "I Am Strong" tour, traveling overseas to entertain the troops.
He's met with equal success as a writer, selling his first screenplay in 2008 and working as one of Hollywood's most sought-after "punch-up" writers, making your favorite movies even funnier.
